Writing to Inspire

Judy never started out to be a writer. In fact the first time the idea to write a book popped into her head, she laughed out loud. The second and third time it happened, she began to consider that maybe this voice she was hearing wasn't hers, that just maybe it was God calling her to do something outlandish with her life. Nah, it couldn't be. She'd never once had a teacher tell her she was a gifted writer and she'd avoided classes in college that required a paper because she knew it was an automatic C. But when three people in one month told her about a class being offered at a local college, she knew she had to pay attention. This was not just coincidental. So she set out to prove to God that he was wrong. The rest, as they say, is history. That class changed her life. She fell in love with the whole idea of writing and she poured herself into this new found career.

Author: Judy is the author of two books, When Love Dies: How to Save a Hopeless Marriage (Word 1999) and What’s in the Bible for Mothers (Bethany House 2007), and recently contributed to The Write Start: Practical Advice for Successful Writing (Pleasant Word 2005). Her articles have appeared in Reader’s Digest, Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul, Moody Magazine, Today’s Christian Woman, Marriage Partnership, and numerous others.

Speaker: She speaks nationally to groups as large as 350 on topics as varied as marriage, divorce, parenting, and writing. She has been a guest on nationally syndicated radio shows and local television programs.

Freelance Copy Editor: She is a freelance copy editor for Revell/Baker Books, AMG, Mission City Press, Hendrickson, and WinePress.

Volunteer Positions: She is past president of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association and currently director of Northwest Christian Writers Renewal Conference and Treasurer of Northwest Christian Writers Association (www.nwchristianwriters.org).

Teacher: Judy taught creative writing at Lake Washington Technical College for eight years and currently is a mentor for Jerry Jenkin's Christian Writers Guild www.christianwritersguild.com. 

She is a former dietitian with a degree in Administrative Management and Nutrition from the University of Washington. She completed her dietetic internship at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.

She has been married to Larry Bodmer since 1969 and they are the proud parents of two sons. Matthew is married to Kacey and David to Merrick.
